Former Solomon Islands Prime Minister urges support for West Papua at a UN level pidp.eastwestcenter.org/pireport/2014/April/04-18-12.htm We are very happy to report that on Tuesday 15th April, the former Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands, Manasseh Sogavare In trying to make sense of the differing views on the issue of West Papua, he said he had come to two realizations: 1. Whether Solomon Islands would continue to join the long queue of gross carelessness, disinterestedness, selfishness and hypocrisy that marked the way the world including the United Nations handled the issue of West Papua for the last four decades; or 2.Face the reality head on and tell the world to come out of its hypocrisy before starting to believe in anything it says about democracy, the right of people to self-determination, freedom and respect for the dignity of human life. Solomon Islands is fully justified to raise concern about the issue of West Papua and push for it to be placed at the agenda of the United Nations This matter transcends simple issues of diplomacy where a mild expression of concern in closed door would suffice. and This is about humanity and moral standing of a member country of the United Nations. knpbnews/?p=3845 On behalf of the Free West Papua Campaign and the people of West Papua, we would like to extend to you our greatest thanks, Mr Manasseh Sogavare for these incredibly bold and heartfelt comments. Our deepest thanks is always with you and our fellow Melanesians and with all supporters around the world, who even if they live in a country where the government does not support West Papua, still come out themselves in support. Your support is vital for the very survival for the very lives of the 2 million Melanesian people in West Papua. Tanggio Tumas Free West Papua Campaign freewestpapua.org
