Former UN Ambassador announced as new deputy minister The Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday announced the a ppointment of former representative of Laos to the United Nations, Mr Saleumxay Kommasith, as a new Deput y Minister of Foreign Affairs. Mr Saleumxays appointment makes him the fourth deputy in the ministry alongside existing deputy ministers Bounkeuth Sangsomsak , Alounkeo Kittikhoun and Sounthone Xayazchack. Mr Saleumxay had previously been working as the ministrys Department of International Organisation Director General and Assistant Minister, along with being the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Laos to the United Nations. At the official announcement ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Thongloun Sisoulith presented a decree from Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong authorising Mr Saleumxays appointment. Mr Thongloun told attendees the new appointment was necessary to cope with the extra work as Laos deepened its relations with the international community. Mr Saleumxay is now one of the youngest deputy ministers in the government. Mr Thongloun praised Mr Saleumxay for his enthusiasm, past achievements, abilities and qualifications. The ministry has recently reshuffled several of its department director generals and office heads to suit new foreign affairs requirements. Changes have been made in the Finance, Asean, Law and Treaties departments, as well as in the Office of Diplomatic Services.
