Former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar has expressed disaffection - TopicsExpress

Former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar has expressed disaffection over what he claimed to be a deliberate plot to frustrate him out of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. Atiku who spoke with newsmen at the weekend, further declared that the leadership of the three strategic organs of the party had alienated him. As a statutory member of the Board of Trustees of the PDP, having been elected Nigerias vice-president on the platform of the party, Atiku said he was not being invited to meetings of the BOT. He spoke further: I am a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) by right under the constitution of PDP. But I have been barred from its meetings because invitations are not extended to me. Indeed by the norms of the PDP, he is entitled to invitations to its caucus, but had consistently been excluded. The former vice-president also announced that he was not happy with the situations in the party where as a major stakeholder in the PDP, decisions affecting the Adamawa chapter of the party were taken without any consideration for his position on such issues, given that he is an Adamawa indigene. The sustained effort by the party managers and government to entrench impunity and not to open up the party to democratic competitions is a clear message to me to leave the party. From every indication, it is clear by now that the governors who have remained in the party have given President Jonathan an automatic ticket, he said. Recall that Atiku had in the last one week been engaged in consultations with his associates and loyalists across the six geo-political zones in the country regarding the invitation extended to him by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC. Also speaking at the session, an associate of the former Vice President and former Minister of Aviation, Professor Babalola Borisade declared that only 20 percent of Nigerians were satisfied with the national governance of the country. Borisade who also served as Minister of Education under the Olusegun Obasanjo administration, said on going consultations by the Atiku Camp were intended to align the former Vice President with the thinking of fellow countrymen.
