Former White House correspondent, reporter, columnist and author - TopicsExpress

Former White House correspondent, reporter, columnist and author Helen Thomas has died. She was 92. She reported on the administrations of eleven presidents, from Eisenhower through Obama. For decades, the diminutive Thomas could be spotted in the front row of the press corp, asking pointed questions, during news and press conferences and announcements by the White House press secretary. Helen Thomas was a true pioneer who opened up opportunities for other women who wanted to report about the goings on at the White House. She was the first female officer of the National Press Club and the first female member and president of White House Correspondents Association and the Gridiron Club, one of the oldest and most prestigious journalistic associations in Washington, DC. Helen Thomas was a national treasure, as much a part of the White House as the Oval Office, the Blue Room and The Lincoln Bedroom. She will be missed. Thank you, Helen.
