Former music teacher accused of committing lewd acts appears in court Brianna Boyd Editor A former Dixon music teacher accused of committing lewd acts on children made a brief appearance in Solano County Superior Court last Tuesday, where attorneys in the case agreed to reschedule an upcoming probable cause hearing while prosecutors investigate to determine if there could be more potential victims. Corey Wilkins, 34, has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. The former youth music teacher, who provided private lessons in both Dixon and Vacaville, is charged by Solano County prosecutors with two counts of committing a lewd act on a child. One count alleges that the victim was under the age of 18 and the second count alleges that the victim was under the age of 14. Dixon police arrested Wilkins in April, following a two-week investigation that began when an acquaintance of Wilkins’ shared a statement he made to police that centered on “being involved in child molestation for a number of years”, Dixon Police Chief Jon Cox said at the time. The investigation uncovered criminal activity occurring over the last 11 years in both Dixon and Vacaville. He was initially charged with five counts of lewd acts upon a child, three counts of sodomy with a suspect over 21 and a victim under 18, four counts of oral copulation with a victim under 14 years, and three counts of oral copulation with a victim under 18 years. According to police, none of Wilkins’ students at the time or his former students were victims. All of the victims are linked to Wilkins through his family, Cox said in April, and live in either Dixon or Vacaville. The oldest case occurred 11 years ago and the most recent was one year ago. Wilkins appeared in Solano County court on Tuesday. According to an article that appeared in the Vacaville Reporter, attorneys in the case agreed to reschedule a probable cause hearing that had been set for later this month because prosecutors were still investigating whether there could be more potential victims in the case that had not been identified. Wilkins’ defense counsel is also investigating to determine if the statute of limitations had elapsed pertaining to at least one of the allegations. Wilkins will next appear before Judge E. Bradley Nelson at 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 7 for the setting of a new probable cause hearing date. He remains in Solano County Jail custody with bail set at $500,000.
