Former state Sen. Dede Feldman wont endorse either candidate for BernCo sheriff because they both oppose the use of lapel cameras, which Feldman says is the only instrument we currently have to hold law enforcement accountable. Interesting! Though shes retired from the Senate, Feldmans endorsements are food for thought for former constituents and others who aligned with her liberal views and passion for open government and accountability issues. Ive pasted her full list below. Do you get endorsements you find interesting or useful from one of your elected officials? Paste links or snippets below! My Election Picks (Top to Bottom) Not all races are included here, just those where I have knowledge of the candidates. Two resources you might want to check in making your choices are the League of Women’s Voters Guide and the Judicial Performance Evaluation Commission. US Senate: Tom Udall. He has courage, a good sense of our values here and I especially thank him for pushing for change in the Senate filibuster and campaign financing. Governor and Lt. Gov: Gary King & Deb Haaland Secretary of State: Maggie Toulouse Oliver, one of the strongest candidates on the ballot this year. She has made voting more convenient in Bernalillo County, and worked hard for fair elections and more participation at every level. Auditor: Tim Keller—my colleague in the Senate, who is pushing for accountability and transparency from state departments. He is innovative and hard working. Treasurer: Tim Eichenberg, another colleague from the Senate. He just knows the finance stuff; an expert on taxation, level headed and more conservative than me. He’ll be good. Attorney General: Hector Balderas Land Commissioner: Ray Powell Jr. Ray is the victim of a TV smear campaign using the former owner of the Dixon orchard, who claims the flood and fire are all due to Ray. Don’t be fooled. This unrelentingly positive man has been a great steward of state lands, which are now bringing in record revenues. Court of Appeals: Kerry Kiernan State Representatives in swing districts who need your help: Rep. Liz Thomson in the mid-Heights. She’s been a champion for heath care and is facing a tough race. Rep. Emily Kane, from the far North Valley, courageous, feisty… is a firefighter, good gov’t supporter and favors a bill to allow independents to vote in primaries. Rep. Stephanie Garcia Richard, of Los Alamos. She was recently smeared by a Republican PAC, whose chief, Jay McClesky, unapologetically said he knew the charge was untrue but sent it anyway. A third grade teacher. William Pratt, an independent and a doctor in his 80s, going door-to-door to explain health care reform and challenge long time Rep. Larry Larranaga. Sherriff: Sorry, I can’t support either candidate because both oppose the use of lapel cameras—the only instrument we currently have to hold law enforcement accountable. District Court Judges: Nancy Francini Josh Boone Marie Ward Victor Lopez Bernalillo County Commisioner: Debbie O’Malley. She stands up and is fearless. County Assessor: Tanya Giddings, I knew this young woman from the legislature where she was a lobbyist and a staffer. She is competent, honest and hard working.
