Former three-term New York Governor and liberal icon, Mario Cuomo, - TopicsExpress

Former three-term New York Governor and liberal icon, Mario Cuomo, the son of Italian immigrants and arguably one of the most eloquent Democratic politicians of this generation, died today at the age of 82, nearly six hours after his son and current New York governor, Andrew Cuomo, was sworn in to his second term as chief executive of the Empire State. The clip below was Governor Cuomos well-received keynote speech at the 1984 Democratic National Convention in San Francisco, California that positioned him as the Democratic standard bearer and front runner for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States in both 1988 and 1992. Cuomos hesitancy and reluctance to seek the nomination in both instances earned him the nickname Hamlet on the Hudson.
