Formula 1, the iconic high-speed racing series of Europe, employs special engines to power the cars that run throughout the series. These motors use pneumatic valve springs in place of metal ones to achieve incredibly high RPM limits; most Formula 1 engines can spin up to 19,000 RPM, almost 2-3 times that of a regular car! The high RPM limit and low displacements of the engines are designed to reduce the horsepower they make, as the cars themselves are very light, and as a result, do not need much power to move at all.
