Fort Daniel in Gwinnett County, Georgia At this year’s 6th Annual Frontier Faire we are going to celebrate the building of Peachtree Road from Fort Daniel to Standing Peachtree and Fort Peachtree as well as the first supply boat, loaded with barrels of flour, that was successfully sent from Ft. Peachtree down to just above the falls to stock the supply depot at Fort Mitchell (Jan. 1814). The rebuilding of the fort at Hog Mountain (Oct-Dec 1813), construction of the road (Jan-Feb 1814), and construction of the fort and boat yard at Standing Peachtree (Feb-March 1814, although the first boat was built at Vann’s Ferry in January 1814) was all part of a plan to supply Floyd and Andrew Jackson in the Alabama Lands. They have been looking, unsuccessfully so far, for a donation of two or more barrels to enhance our display for honoring this accomplishment. The manufacturer of the ideal barrel for this, wants about $100 per barrel for a 30”high version, does not have “seconds” and has not offered to make a donation as requested. I have seen them as wine and beer displays, so they are around. Check pictures at Maine Bucket Company site. Thus they are putting out an appeal to anyone who may know anyone where we could get one or more of these or similar? Please let me know… James DAngelo
