Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel Foundation Where the Veteran is Remembered Five years ago (today), on November 5th, 2009, SSG Patrick Zeigler thought that he may be in the midst of some sort of drill … as a red laser dot blinked across his eye. Seconds later, a bullet exploded into his head. That afternoon, SSG Zeigler was at Station 13 of the Fort Hood Soldier Readiness Center - home from his 2nd deployment to Iraq, and just moments away from being cleared to attend Officer Candidate School. But in those few moments, Patrick’s life was changed forever by a demented Major in a uniform of the U.S. Army. Patrick tried to crawl out of that building that afternoon, but kept slipping in his own blood. As he struggled to exit, he was shot 3 more times – in the shoulder, arm, and hip – with this Muslim terrorist yelling – “Allah Akbar.” The last thing that SSG Zeigler remembers is reaching for a chair leg … to pull himself from harms way … and that chair sliding toward him in his blood instead of him moving toward the chair. Patrick has since married Jessica, but only after he was able to walk down the aisle. They have a son, Liam. They’ve moved to Minnesota, and reside in Rochester where Jessica and her family are from. This Sunday (Nov 9 - 11:00 am) Patrick will be recognized along with veterans of all branches of our U.S. Armed Forces at our Veterans Day Sunday ... at the historic Ft. Snelling Chapel – where truly “the veteran is remembered” each and every week. https://facebook/FortChapel/photos/a.561853173847604.1073741829.113472448685681/845051445527774/?type=1&fref=nf
