Fortunately I was totally cool with my role in discussing possible IB extended essay topics with Esme, which was to generate ideas that could be shot down, preferably ridiculed as the worst topic ever. Obviously: none of my suggestions involved slit defraction grating of sound waves. (Or something like that.) Nor would any of my ideas have yielded a science project as well. The apples has fallen far from the tree, which is also fortunate.
