Fortune cookies should give predictions of things to come. Good things to come. Useful things that I can look forward to in the days ahead. I feel really cheated when they contain pithy observations. In fact, Im feeling lately that there is a 30%:70% satisfying:disappointing ratio. My last three fortunes have been (yes, I kept them in my purse the last 3 visits to Chinese restaurants): 1) Emotions can be sweet and sour, so can your meal. (What kind of a lame fortune is that??!! Of course, after this fortune, my emotions went from sweet to sour in less than 6 seconds.) 2) You were born with a sixth sense. (Really? I cant see dead people, nor do I want to.) 3) 80% of the results flow from 20% of the activities. (I really didnt think I was reaching my major life goals while watching Americas Got Talent. Cmon...I teach the Pareto Principle to others like every day of my life. Cant I ever get away from work?) Im done. I will pay extra for my next fortune. I just really, really want it to be something like... Good things come to those who wait. Youve waited long enough. You will own a brand new paid-in-full Audi A-7...it will be waiting for you when you wake up. There will be a tall Chai Latte in the cup holder...and the car will immediately eject anyone who enters with crumbly food or muddy feet.
