Forty -six years ago today, 76 courageous souls of the 173rd Airborne, Company A 2/503 Infantry (approx. 120) were slaughtered via multiple human wave attacks by an elite North Viet Nam unit (estimated anywhere from 500-1200) in the Central Highlands of South Viet Nam. Another two dozen were seriously wounded in what is now known as The Battle of the Slopes. This encounter ranks as the worse loss of life by a US unit in a single day. I am one of a couple dozen who survived this massacre charged with ensuring the world of its significance. So many young to have left us so soon. "Sweet is war to those who have never experienced it."
