Forty-five Vincentian Registered Nurses have been recruited for employment with the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment Luis de Shong has received official confirmation from his counterpart in Trinidad and Tobago that the nurses will travel to Port of Spain on Wednesday, July 24, 2013, on three separate flights: Twelve (12) at 9.30 am, fifteen (15) at 4.20 pm and eighteen (18) at 6.40 pm. The nurses will be employed on a contractual basis for an initial period of three (3) years. Upon arrival in Trinidad, the nurses will participate in an orientation programme which will focus on the following: • An overview of the Health System • An overview of the Nursing Service • Law for Health Professionals/Terms and Conditions of Employment • Personal Safety and Crime Prevention • Human Resource Protocols • The Role of the Nursing Council • Administration of Medication • An Overview of Community Nursing and the HIV Epidemic in Trinidad and Tobago • Infection Control • An Overview of Health Promotion • Quality Systems and the Role of the Professionals/Standards and Protocols, Code of Ethics, Patient Safety • The Expanded Programme of Immunization Services in the Public Health Sector • The Organisation of Pharmacy Services in the Public Health Sector • Documentation of Medical Records: TheRole of the Professionals • Money Matters • Customer Service in Health Luis de Shong Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment
