Forty genes were found to differ between the domesticated and non-domesticated farm-raised foxes, although about 2,700 genes differed between the wild foxes and either set of farm-raised foxes. We know very little of wild fox behaviour, but we know even less about the behaviour and welfare of farm foxes. In the UK fox farms were banned not so long ago, yet before we ceased, we learnt nothing of their welfare as a result of our use of them, does no longer using them mean we shouldnt want to know or care? These animals have been selectively bred by man for so long, they differ genetically from their wild counterparts. Much like dairy cattle differ from wild cattle. To keep a sheep is unique, but not frowned upon. Does being a carnivore make a difference?
