Forty years ago this month I was shot while attending a community meeting to build a health clinic on Potrero Hill. During a 7 month period from October 1973 to April 1974, the city experienced a series of murders that turned out to be the first major urban terrorism in our country. As victim number 5 (of 22) and the first to survive, I was the subject of many interviews to seek answers and discuss the impact of the experience. This December 2014 interview by Linda Yee of KPIX has been reedited to include the entire interview that appeared on national news with Walter Cronkite in December 1973. The Cronkite CBS Nightly News interview was done in the hospital a few days after life saving major surgery by Dr. Donald Trunkey, chief of the Trauma Unit at San Francisco General to repair internal damage from 2 bullet wounds to the chest. There was a police guard and authorities would only allow the camera to film from the neck up in order to not reveal my location at that time.
