Forum for African Women Educationalists in Malawi- FAWEMA FAWEMA has secured funding from USAID for implemmentation of strengthening early grade reading for malawi children activity. The activity will be implemmented in the districts of mwanza and ntchisi. FAWEMA is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the following vacancies at FAWEMA offices in Lilongwe: 1. Project Officer(reporting to the programme manager) reporting to the programme manager, the project officer will perform the following duties: -ensure implementation of activities according to the activities timeline -support district coordinators to manage and monitor the learning assistants,communicating with schools as necessary -keep records of all learning assistants and update the records on receipt of information from mentors and district coordinators -produce a quartery news sheet about the project and disseminate it to relevant stakeholders - work with the management team to submit accurate and timely financial information(budgetary and expenditure) to USAID - organise the logistics for activity workshops,training and meetings - organising printing of materials as necessary - submit periodic reports on a monthly and quartery basis to the programme manager -carry out other duties related to the project as assigned by management. Qualifications and skills - first degree in education or social science,or humanities from a the University of malawi or any government recognized institution. - atleast three years project implementation experience. Good background in advocancy issues,M&E,research,capacity building and gender. - ability to handle multiple tasks and meet very strict deadlines. -knowledge and skills in key computer packages: word,excel,power point - a self starter that can work with minimum supervision and willing to work extra hours when the call of duty demands -excellent verbal and written communiction skills with exceptional attention to details and ability to write high quality reports. - a demonstrated good team player with good supervisory skills - personal qualities of integrity,credibility and ability to follow official systems and procedures -knowledge of development,education,gender issues and NGO work in malwi. 2. Accounts assistant the accounts assistant will report to the accountant and perform the following duties: -processing payments within strict deadlines -writing,recording and disbursing all cheques to verified payees - maintaining cash books and cash position schedules in a timely manner. - act as a paying officer on activities and prepare liquidations of funds and refund balances within deadline -responsible for all timely filing of accounting records in a secure manner -any other duties as may be assigned. Qualifications and experience - Diploma in accounting from an accredited institution - atleast 3 yrs relevant working experience. - competence in use of sage pastel evolution,microsoft excel,word and email. -excellent time management skills and ability to work to tight deadlines. -team player with good reporting and communication skills-fluency in written and spoken english 3. Driver the driver will serve as a chauffer for staff, he or she will also perform the following duties - ensuring that vehicle in use is kept in good condition and to the highest level of cleanliness. - ensuring routine vehicle maintenance and checks such as oil,water,tyres,lamps,mirrors, etc every morning before commencing a trip and reporting any faults to the adminstrative assistant. - ensure that log books are kept up to date and that trips are signed by officers,recording correctly and on time and passing the necessary information to the adminstrative assistant. - ensuring vehicle is road worthy by having valid vehicle licences and certificate of fitness,ensure that deadlines for fixing these are adhered to -report any accident involving FAWEMA vehicles as soon as possible to the police and to the national coordinator within seven days of the accident. - as a rule,FAWEMA vehicles should not be involved in long distance trips after 4:00pm. - perform any other adminstrative tasks as assigned. Qualifications and experience -MSCE -Clean valid driving licence - a defensive driving certificate - experience driving in and familiarity with rural terrain and roads. - presentable and demonstrated punctuality. - ability to work old hours and at times on extended field trips. - mature with a high standard of professionalism - excellent written and verbal commucation skills in english. Time frame all positions will be on a one year contract period,with an extension possibility. Performance reviews will be conducted regularly during the lifetime of the contract. Remuneration attractive remuneration which will be commensurate with FAWEMA salary structure.
