Forwarding a request from my friend Rebecca with TLAER. Alright - FRESH from the NFPA technical committee meeting this week - we have a project - and many of you will be able to contribute. I am tasked as part of the working group for NFPA 150 to find some information on BARN FIRES that have occurred - and to get better data than can usually be found in a newspaper article where possible. Yes I need the online link to any fires that you know about - email them to me at delphiacres@hotmail please. For some of you I know you were THERE - so you will be able to give me the best data. BETTER - I cant do it all - so getting you to make a phone call or email to people you know and getting better information if you KNOW where a fire occurred - and I dont care if it was 20 years ago. THEIR INFORMATION CAN HELP! SPECIFICALLY - RESEARCH: 1.) Fire Data - tractor shed with stalls? Pigs? Cattle? goats? Horse barn? Hay in roof area? Are there photos of the barn BEFORE and AFTER? 2.) Where are the fires starting? (hay, stalls, electrical panel, etc.) 3.) What is the cause of the fire? (cigarette, lightning, etc.) 4.) What is contributing to the fire spread? Fuel source? 5.) Age of the facility. New or old? (date of build if possible) 6.) Construction of the facility. (Wood vs. metal or concrete, etc. or mixed.) 7.) Where their fire protection systems in place? If so, did they work or activate? (specifically: a. sprinklers b. smoke detectors c. heat detectors d. smoke control systems e. fire alarm system (local or central station) and any other details such as f. fire extinguishers) 8.) Number of animals in the facility? Number of animals that died? Cost of the animals? Type of animal(s)? 9.) People responding or involved - injuries / fatalities? 10.) Time that the fire started? Time to arrival of fire dept? Time to extinguishment? 11.) Was the building occupied by staff/visitors? 12.) Losses in dollars? Insurance? Total loss or partial? 13.) what was the DATE of the fire, the LOCATION of the fire, and the STATE and COUNTRY that it occurred in. 14) POC information on the person that knows details on the fire - telephone and email? Please send all data to me at delphiacres@hotmail and I will be collating it for use in various educational publications through NFPA and at AAEP this winter as well.
