Foster Update, Part 1. The beagle is Maggie, a new foster for Club Pet Adoption. She is extremely frightened of people, and thats why I brought her home. She has made more progress than I expected in the few days Ive had her. She still hides in her crate, but when were outside on the long line she no longer tries to run away from me, and she no longer pants from fear when were outside. And she willingly follows me into the house. I no longer have to carry her in. And then we have little Sis, a beagle-jack or beagle-rat terrier. She was not only trained to stay outside, but she also arrived very afraid of people. She would either run or freeze when I walked toward her. After nearly a year in foster with me, shell now come in the house when invited. And she sleeps with me. The expression on her face has changed: the look of being frozen in fear is gone, replaced for the most part by happy dog face. Thats a big deal to me. For a foster dog to go from frightened to happy is the biggest reward of fostering. Here she is sharing a bed with my brindle-girl, Pink. Sis might disappear from Petfinder. She might have to stay right here.
