Found Hook on Netflix. Havent watched this movie in ages... Is it just me, or is Julia Roberts over rated as an actress? Or is that speaking sacrilege in some circles? I liked her in Steel Magnolias. For that matter, sometimes I wonder of Steven Spielberg is over rated as a director. That might be considered criminal though. Schindlers List and Saving Private Ryan are indisputable classics, but they are marred by Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and AI, and though Im a horse lover, War Horse was a sentimental mess. And there is Hook, which is only watchable by imagining Zuko in the animated version of Avatar the Last Air Bender shouting lost boy insults... And Dustin Hoffman. Hes great too. Some movies dont age well, but as much as I want to give kudos to the great composing talents of John Williams, I find some movies with their sweeping musical scores distracting, as if trying to force a a dramatic element onto a film that doesnt really have one, as if suggesting you as the viewer are supposed to care what happens in this scene when me as a viewer is thinking am I supposed to care about this character? I think the musical score is trying to make me think Im supposed to care, but I really dont Needless to say, I dont watch movies much anymore, except kid movies. And I find myself analyzing them constantly. Movie watching just isnt the same anymore. Random critical review over...
