C., WEDNESDAY, MAY 31, 1967 MUSIC FIRM —Houston (Hoss) Peters and Joe Beaver have formed a music recording and publishing company with offices at 1124 Shelton Avenue. The men have been working together for a year. The firms first release will be Its All Right Now. It will hit the market the first of July. The firm name is Meloney Music. The big one is Peters. Plotter Business Partners Form Recording Firm Houston (Hoss) Peters, route 6, Statesville, and Joe Beaver, Shelton Avenue, have formed a publishing and recording company to be known as Meloney Music. The firm, which will be a partnership, will have offices at 1124 Shelton Avenue, Statesville. The firm will use Panther Records as a label. It will publish sheet music and produce records exclusively and will not be involved in other types of business. The firm Is licensed by Broadcast Music, Inc., of New York City, which is one of the nations three licensing firms. Beaver will serve as president of the firm and Peters will be secretary-treasurer. They will specialize in country and western music. They expect their first record to be released early in July. This song will be called Its All Right Now, composed by both men. Beaver and Peters both write lyrics and music. Harold Sides of Maiden will do the vocal work for this number. Other artists in this area including Ray Josey and Benny Benfield of Statesville are under contract to the firm. Josey and Benfield have made records for K-ARK Record Company of Nashville, Tenn. Beaver has been with Hair Stylists, Inc., for seven years. He is a native of Statesville. Peters has been in radio work for six years. He is from Kingsport, Tenn. He has been associated with WFMX for five years as an announcer. He has a show named The Hoss Show from 7 p.m. until midnight Monday through Friday. The two men have been working together for one year and have composed over a dozen songs which have been recorded and released nationally. One of these entitled The Flip Side of Your Heart has sold over 10,000 records. Benfield sang in it. Another of their songs, Walking Back, with Josey doing the solo work, is now listed on the rating charts. The firm is arranging a contract with a Nashville recording company to do the recording work. Peters said that approximately 75 per cent of all records are recorded and produced in Nashville. The local firms records will be produced in Nashville and distributed nationally by a Nashville distributor. Beaver and Peters said they are interested in locating new talent and new material so their firm can serve the widest audience possible. The firm will handle bookings and promotions for artists using their label.
