Was established in 1809, and incorporated in 1810, population in 1833 about 800; contains two academies, two blacksmiths, one bricklayer, three carpenters, three cabinet makers, two cotton gins, one carding machine, four physicians, two clergymen, three hatters, nine lawyers, one printing office, one painter, one saddler, two shoemakers, three tailors, one tavern, and one wagon maker. It is 30 miles north from Huntsville, 73 miles south from Nashville, and 722 south-west from Washington City. Lat. 35 degrees 10 N., lon. 9 degrees 37 W. (End of article)
