Found out the first thing where the Finnish banking / crediting system is miles behind the US: Handling credit card fraud cases. A month ago my US card was used fraudulently. I got a call 5 minutes after the first attempt, the card was cancelled in 2 seconds and the questionable charges were cancelled no questions asked. I received a new card in the mail a few days later. Last week my Finnish card was used fraudulently. 4 days later, I received a letter (!) asking me to contact them. I call them up over the weekend, validate that the charges were indeed fraudulent, but am told I need to call again during the week as they are too understaffed to take care of the case. I call again two days later and Im told that I need to a) fill in a form b) file a criminal report with the Finnish police c) provide proof that I havent been in the city where the card was used on the day it was used. When I told them the difference and that I was frankly pretty pissed off, they just responded with a classic Finnish response: well, this is how we operate.
