Found something some comments on petfinder that make a lot of sense: You know im all for rescueing an animal from a shelter. The problem I have found with a lot of these supposed rescues is the think they are a retail store for dogs. $700, $1000 ,rehoming fee ? No that is not rehoming that is staight up sales of an animal, and these places have the nerve to call themselves a rescue!? ----- Many Rescues forward costs to potential new owners. Costs that the Rescue has accrued, or costs they foresee. It is my problem as well with Rescues that go in a swoop up dogs, perfectly healthy dogs, that need absolutely no Vet Care- and turn around and sell them (fees) for 400.00 plus dollars. Many times you cant go visit these dogs in their natural environment (their temporary home) because of so called risks to the foster parents. So you cant see where they live, how they live, how they interact, as well many other variables that are a MUST when getting a new pet. Rescue/shelter pets- we typically have no idea where they came from, what to expect, or how to necessarily prepare. There are tons of unknowns- Then there is some outrageous COST to get an animal they plucked out of a shelter. Oh I wont go into their application process to much, only to say- it is rather intrusive. What is the incentive to adopt or rescue? Especially if you do your research and find out how to get the dog you want, as a puppy- with the ability to get him/her AKC Registered for less than 500.00- you have options to go to the owners home, see the dog in their natural environment, see the parents, find out the history on the animal, see the pedigree- find out if there are any known health issues in that specific line. Oh and their are breeders out there not looking for profit, not milling out dogs, just looking to better a breed, so they dont charge crazy prices for their pups.... Again I say what is the incentive? Dont say saving a dog, because it is up to the Rescue to make it happen, not up to the potential owner to bow down. That is all. If it costs so much to get animals prepared for adoption why dont shelters charge more? Because it doesnt cost 700.00 dollars to temporary house a perfectly healthy dog, in the real world ahhhhh ----- I agree! I just recently tried to adopt a dog from a rescue but was turned down because I live on 2 acres of land without a fence. My 14 year old beagle recently past away. She grew up on these 2 acres of land without a fence and lived a wonderful life. I think the animal rescue organizations are hurting the chances for some wonderful dogs to get their forever homes because of the cost and the requirements. ---------- Need I say more?
