Found this poem from last winter when Amber was working on the budget. See, dreams really do come true, Amber and Daniel Pease! Twas the night before Budget when all through the house One creature was stirring - it wasnt a mouse. The files were sorted and stacked on the floor, And someone was hoping there werent any more. Peyton was cozy all snug in her bed, While visions of Daniel danced in her head. Ma in her snugly and pa in his camo had just settled down from Counting his ammo. When from the upstairs there arose such a clatter he sprang from his bed to see what was the matter. He ran up the stairs, Threw open the door and saw to his surprise Something on the floor. The moon shining in Gave the eeriest glow. What the object was He couldnt possibly know. When what to his puzzled eyes did appear But his beloved girl Shedding a tear. With the littlest quiver And quietest sob, He knew it was Amber Completing her job. More rapid than calculators, The numbers they came: She added and divided and Gave it a name. From houses, from garages, From goats, and from bars, From restaurants from tool sheds, From dogs, and from cars; From the tops of the spread sheets To the sums of Excel, Give me your numbers and give me them well! As Sherlocks mind with a puzzle does fly So Ambers brain Did numbers apply. So off the computer She printed it all, Balances and budgets Not a dollar did fall. And then in a twinkling, Pa heard from her feet Dancing and prancing And keeping a beat. He slipped out of sight And headed downstairs, When Amber jumped Some living room chairs. Wearing pajamas From neck to her toes, She looked as sweet As a blossoming rose. A pile of files Held tight in her hands, She looked overjoyed To have finished the plans. Her eyes, how they twinkle!d Her dimples, so sweet! She sparkled and shined And stood there petite. With radiant smile Beaming so bright, She was delighted: The Budget was right. The stub of a pencil Held in her teeth Twas worn to a nib From writing a sheaf. Her face showed relief For completing her task, But modest and kind No glory would ask. Slender and pretty A capable girl, Pa gave a sigh When he saw this pearl. A little smile And tilt of her head Made Pa realize She was going to bed. She laid down her files, Shed finished her work; Getting some sleep Was a small little perk. And Placing a finger before her lips, Caused Pa to know She needed to slip With a spring to her bed, Under covers shed creep, Her budget was finished And now she could sleep. Pa heard her murmur As she crawled into bed, Happy Budget to all, I want Daniel to wed. (Megan Bennett Tj Bennett, Debbie Tolliver)
