Founding and running a non-profit organization is not an easy - TopicsExpress

Founding and running a non-profit organization is not an easy task…its long days and non-existent nights and periods of being a form of all the roles- ha-ha …from the volunteer to the marketer to the mail man to the boss…& some days you *briefly* ask yourself “why again did we do this ..:-)”….but , it is rewarding to see the positive change in the lives that you touch, to see the renewed hope in the futures that you influence, to see the great influence that the untrodden path you chose to take has made, and some days more than others, you are reminded that you live for a cause above you, you live above the norm, and you live above the barriers…Well, today was one of those days….As director of Imbako, today, at the Atlanta Hartsfield airport, I was privileged to see-off a team of 5 noble individuals; individuals from J. Mack Robinson College of Business, Georgia State University who compose part of the Beta Alpha Psi leadership team. These 5 chose to spend their vacation supporting an initiative that strives to allay disparities in education faced by the girl-child in Kenya; The Global Impact Project (GIP). To date under GIP, 20 girls from rural Kenya have been afforded undergraduate education…I can hear their voices resonating while at the airport…” we will go to Kenya, and make a difference to those girls , we will meet with them, work with them , listen to them, and continue to encourage them to read, and work hard towards a brighter future…we will step beyond the classroom walls…internationally”….As I hugged each of the 5 GSU team goodbye, I thought of the team and community in Kenya awaiting them; the eager smiles, handshakes, pictures, conversations, workshops, joy & hope renewed. Such connections make you remember your bigger cause…..yes; I thanked God for the courage to build an organization that enables a positive global impact. “Every day courage has few witnesses. But yours is no less noble because no drum beats before you and no crowds shout your name- RLS. Imbako Public Health salutes Georgia State University & the team travelling to Kenya!
