Four Woodstock High School students placed at Clemson University’s 42nd Annual Declamation Contest including a top prize of Gold in the foreign language competition. The university’s Department of Languages sponsors the competition in which students recite poetry in American Sign Language, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Russian or Spanish and are judge on their pronunciation, interpretation, delivery and accuracy. William Penniman won the top award of Gold for his first-place performance in Spanish AP (Advanced Placement) level. Three students won third place: Rebecca Alonzo for Spanish 4, Steven Casado for French 3 and Anna Fargas for Spanish – Native Speaker. A total of 12 students from Woodstock HS participated.
