Four episodes in, my feelings on Agents of SHIELD are: 1. They either need to get better at Whedony dialogue or move away from it. Because right now, they are not good at it, to the point where its the main thing bugging me about the show. 2. They need to give the characters more distinct personalities and roles. Weve basically got three techies, two grim and glowering punchers, and Coulson. This is not a great mix as it stands. 3. The stories, though, are pretty good. If you peel away dialogue and characterization issues, Ive thought the plots were pretty appealing twisty. Related to that, I think they are doing a better job with the character work on the villains and guest characters than the main cast. Theres a really good show in there, somewhere, but they dont look to be moving towards it.
