Four southerners under the mercy of the gangs of north…. What does this mean? Ahmed Alshelfi This title is the best way to express the way the ruling north thinks of the south and southerners since the unity agreement in 1990, it is the way of exclusion, arrogance and regionalism. With deep pain, I follow the handling of what is going on with the southern officials, particularly that two of the detainees are my friend and neighbor Dr. Ahmad bin Mubarak, president’s Hadi office director, and Khaled Bahah, the prime minister, whom I had a very good relationship with since he had been the petroleum minister during the rule of the ousted president particularly in 2006. The first was kidnapped in an immoral and inhuman way, and the second was besieged by militants. While president Hadi suffers more as he is besieged in his house and threatened with assassination at any moment after not less than 34 of his guards were killed and injured. The Houthis, moreover hold a siege around the house of the minister of defense, Mahmoud Alsubaihi, and many other ministers from the south. Of course we don’t have enough information about what happened between the houthis and Ahmad bin Mubarak, but we do know some information about what happened between the houthis and Hadi and Albahhah who are subject to an armed extortion under the house arrest and the tight siege. According to the representatives of Abdelmalek Alhouthi the two men are asked to withdraw resignations particularly Bahhah, who had been asked frankly to do so. After Hadi had been elected, the politicians, military men and tribesmen of the north- whether those who supported February revolution that overthrew Saleh or those who did not- believed that the governance formula has been changed, so they participated in an indirect tacit alliance linked to governance and politics and started to conspire –each in his own way- to overthrow the new governance formula, therefore they used all means to disregard and contempt Hadi who reflects a southern background firstly, and a Shafi’ie and a political background secondly, as he is the president of post-revelation phase, then they deceived Yemenis and get involved with Houthi militants. Throughout history we can see the mentality of the Northerners that mentality of conspiracy to monopolize power and overthrow any civilian project. Regardless of the misconduct of President Hadi, any other president, of the same characteristics would fail in front of such a professional gang that got upset because the new governance formula would keep them away of governing Yemen for tens of years. Now, I am surprised to see four big state officials from the south being kidnapped and seized while observers show no interest. As the message that this sectarian and regional action bears takes us once more to the failure of unity agreement by the mentality of the northerners that govern with the mentality of gangs. Abdelmalek Alhouthi with his Shiite dresses and Iranian background was accepted by mentalities of this particular region that sought to destroy all the Yemeni projects by all means, the last was the conspiracy on the state idea. The barbaric message we had been trying to conceal, that the north is not ready to unity because of these gangs, with all their different military, tribal and sectarian approaches, now appears obviously in this painful insult to the southerners and to the unity project. Accordingly, you can see now that the idea of isolating the north with all its social and geographical details has been completed in the Yemeni mentality with its recent reactions. Whether we accepted it or didn’t, this part will be out of any coming project sooner or later.
