Four tigers found in abandoned car May 22, 2014 Category:TigerTime General 35 57 Tumblr0 UDON THANI, Thailand, 22 May 2014 - Officials confiscated four tigers left abandoned in a black sedan with a Bangkok license plate in Muang District yesterday, speculating the animals were stolen and destined for neighboring Lao People’s Democratic Republic. The four tigers aged 2 - 3 years were found in big plastic baskets in a vehicle parked near a public pond in Nong Phai Sub-district, Muang District. The Chief of the sub-district said a villager had informed him that a man parked the car at the spot before being picked up by a small truck and fleeing the area. The villager inspected the abandoned car and found the four big cats were sleeping in their plastic cages. A Royal Forest Department expert speculated the tigers had been raised in a private farm, given their paws were smooth indicating their inexperience to the wild. The tigers also appeared to be familiar with humans, he said, adding that their displayed drowsiness may have resulted from tranquilizer agents they received before being transported. The official said all of the four tigers would be sent to Phu Khieu Wildlife Conservation Center in Chaiyaphum Province, before being released into the wild. Udon Thani police speculated that the animals could have been taken from a farm either in the eastern or southern region for sale to clients in neighbouring Laos where the trend of keeping wild animals as pets is popular among aristocrats there.
