Four years ago, racist hate groups like the KKK were only found on the fringes of society. The FAR fringes. They lived in the shadows, rarely ever making public appearances. Then came Barack Obama, followed immediately by the growling, rabid Tea Party. Because their overt racism was never harnessed and slapped back by the powers-that-be in the Republican party, (in fact, they "embraced" it, hoping it would translate into GOP votes), the hate went mainstream, and now you can proudly be as racist as you like, while having leaders of the Republican party insisting that there is no such thing as racism anymore, and we should all just shut up about it. So, thanks Tea Party. Thanks Republicans. And that means all of you. It would have only taken one or two leaders with a sense of integrity to stand up to and proclaim how wrong, how sickening, members of their own party were behaving. But no one did. And this is the result.
