Four years ago today on 10/5/2010 I underwent a life saving surgery. Surgery was absolutely necessary in order to prevent my trachea collapsing. I was told that there was a 95% chance I would not survive surgery. If I did survive I would not be able to breathe without requiring a tracheostomy. I was told that even if by some miracle I made it through surgery and was able to breathe without the tracheostomy, I would NOT be able to speak because my vocal chords would be too damaged. Well, God had other plans. I am alive, I can breathe AND boy can I talk. LOL After my 2 month recovery from the surgery I was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer (two tumors one was 11cm the other 3 cm) and had to undergo agressive treatment that would keep me from being around my family. That has been a journey too. Again, I am still here, I guess God figured I still have a purpose to fulfill here and I am not done fulfilling it. Right now that I have been sick I am reminded how fragile life and our vocal chords are and all the what ifs have been coming up for me. It has been a very emotional day. My heart is full of gratitude.
