Four years ago today was my first day as the first employee of Mercy Project. For all practical purposes, it was the first day that Mercy Project (as we all know it) existed. What an incredible ride it has been. Seems simultaneously to have been a long time and no time at all. We took a lot of risks to start this organization, and a lot of people took a lot of risk on us. It was a crazy dream. A vision that seemed impossible to most. But so far, God continues to smile on all of us as we continue to seek justice and mercy and new life for the children and fishing villages in Ghana. Four years has brought thousands of supporters, hundreds of speaking opportunities, multiple world records, a bunch of races, a plethora of other fundraising events, and more. It also brought together a community of amazing people, from all different walks of life and background of beliefs, who have stood together to say yes to freedom with us. Most importantly, those four years have directly brought freedom and new life to 46 formerly trafficked children in Ghana. It also brought a new way of fishing and living for two rural fishing communities. And were not done yet. One of the gifts of the last four years (though it hasnt always felt like a gift at the time), is that we have been incredibly diligent and deliberate about laying the foundation for long-term success and sustainability rather than fleeting victories. What that means is that the next four years should bring some incredible growth to our work for freedom in Ghana. We have planted and tended, now we will harvest. We anticipate and are working towards another 200+ children rescued and reintegrated over the next four years and another 8-10 fishing villages given new means of economic viability. But we cant do it without you, and we wouldnt want to even if we could. Thanks for standing with us, for being our people, for cheering us on, for pushing us towards the ledge, for lending your time and talent and gifts to us for the children in Ghana. Youve blessed us for four years already, now heres to the next four. Until every boat is empty...
