Four years ago today we had our wee miracle come into the world. This was by far the hardest time in our lives, mentally and physically. This wee bubba wasnt even named until she was six days old, as we had been told she would not survive the pregnancy, let alone birth. And was given a 5% chance of survival. We named her Inara after Ryans grandmother whose middle name was Inara. The meaning of this Arabic name is ray of light, heaven sent. Happy Birthday baby girl, Inara Lee Herdman. And thank you so much to everyone who has followed Inaras journey, especially those who helped us get her eating and mobile like she deserved to be. Her life and ours is very different now thanks to you all. Since my return from Graz I have helped lead a Campaign for change for other tube fed children in NZ. The Tube Wean NZ Campaign This has led to strict protocol currently being established, and Ministry of Health funding in the not too distant future for these kids that need this same rapid weaning support here in NZ. This has been hard work at times juggling four children also. But so well worth it to see some children already being weaned from hard work Ive put in, and its been so rewarding. Inaras journey is far from over as she will always have ongoing health issues related to her condition- CDH. She only has the one lung functioning, she will need further surgeries, and still cannot handle the preschool environment due to her immune system. But we are hoping she may be able to start school next year, fingers crossed. I thought it might be time to close this page, and maybe make one that can be a public page to like that I can update regularly? Id love to know your thoughts. But for now if anyone would like to leave a message for Inara under this post I will be printing this out for her to read when she is old enough to look back on her journey.
