Fox & Weeks is privileged to serve the family and loved ones of Mr. Joseph Lawrence Byerly, 84, who passed away peacefully in his home on Nov. 2, 2014. He was born on August 16, 1930 in Vine Grove, KY to the late Martin and Edith Byerly. After serving 4 years in the U.S. Air Force, where he met his wife Dorothy, he worked for Central Truck Lines until he retired. He later began working at the Nativity of Our Lord and St. Peter’s Catholic Church. He was commissioned a “Kentucky Colonel” on November 1, 1996 and received Bishop Gartland Award on November 23, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Dudley Byerly; four children, William (Billy) (Linda), Janet Nickens (Ray), James Byerly (Anne), Anthony Byerly; 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by parents Martin and Edith, baby daughter, (Nancy), brother, Thomas, sisters, Glady Clark, Joyce Benton, Jean Sheeran, Nellie Johnson. The family would like thank Paula Burroughs for the wonderful care given to the Byerly Family. Visitation will be held on Tuesday at the Fox & Weeks Hodgson Chapel from 5-7 pm with a Rosary at 6:30 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am on Wednesday at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. The family suggests that any remembrances be made to St. Peter the Apostle Church, St. Vincent’s Academy or a Charity of your choice.
