Foxcatcher: During a Charlie Rose Interview Director Marc Webb - TopicsExpress

Foxcatcher: During a Charlie Rose Interview Director Marc Webb said while discussing the dynamic between Peter Parker/ Dr.Curt Connors that people have a hole or an emotional gap that they work hard to fill. This is the central Croix of what Foxcatcher explores deeply within its three main characters. One of these characters will try to fill in the gap by throwing money at their problem, another is so close to filling that goal, and another is willing to break his physical and emotional limits to fill his emotional gap. This is a daring, deliberately paced, and chilling movie about this theme and while I dont think it completely hits all of the marks it should do. Bennett Miller has crafted another great character drama, that will (currently has) give more accolades and nominations to go on his resume. The movie opens with Mark Schultz (Played by Channing Tatum) and we see that he is always second to his brother David (played by Mark Ruffalo) who is a world renowned Wrestler. Yes, Mark is also a Olympian wrestler , but hes no where near as beloved as David. So when Jon Du Pont gives Mark an opportunity to join his wrestling team so he can finally impress his mother and continue his familys legacy. We see the progression of Mark and Jons relationship grow throughout the first half of this movie, but Jon has his goals and hes not reaching them with Mark fast enough, so he drags David and his family to the estate to train Mark and the other wrestlers who have been acquired by Mark and Jon. As we enter the second half the movie becomes more Hypnotic and extremely intense with its editing building to its tragic climax. If there was any problems that I had with the movie its that the movie is that the climax wasnt fully build up entirely yet and if there was a scene or two more putting the characters in the positions that push them to where theyre at tin the climax. it wouldve worked amazingly well for me. Plus, Sienna Miller is playing extremely wasted in this movie, and almost unrecognizable. However, she probably has three scenes in this entire movie, and I think it would have been great to see a bit more of her and Ruffalo together just so you can get more of Davids Motivations and why hes reluctant to do anything with out his familys consent. Other than that I really liked this movie. Its thrilling, uncomfortable, but also just addicting. This movie is about three characters finding ways to fill the emotional gap that is missing in their lives. For Mark, its to get out of his brothers shadow. For Jon, its to get out of his mothers shadow and contribute something to his familys legacy. David has the smallest gap of them all, because hes almost there if he can let go of his brother; which is to give his family a sense of stability and a better environment to grow up under instead of the environment he had. I believe this movie is another great movie from Bennett Miller and I hope he continues his streak of impressive movies. So please Ignore Steve Carrels beak and watch a movie that will leave you with something. A- rating!
