Foxhole Stars 2 St Mawgan 1 Duchy League Division 1 The home side came out on top of this leaders v 2nd place game. St Mawgan made a great start with James Olsen firing a low left foot drive into the corner of the net. Foxhole had plenty of possession and had two very lively centre forwards but Grant Russell and Andy Willmott in the centre of defence were outstanding (again). Foxhole were made to cross from deep positions and Brett Prentice in goal dealt with everything with confidence. Stuart Harris fashioned a chance for himself and he curled a lovely right foot shot but straight at the keeper. Whilst all of the St Mawgan players worked hard their positional play and ball retention was disappointing at this stage of the season. The visitors were happy to go in at the break 1 up despite not playing very well. Unfortunately the spark which St Mawgan hoped for in the second half never arrived and Foxhole piled on the pressure. Prentice made two wonderful saves to keep The Saints in front. with 20 minutes to go the lively right winger from Foxhole cut in off the right and wasnt closed down quickly enough and he hit a fine left foot shot past Prentice. Mawgan hoped for a quick response but this never materialised and after conceding possession Griffin was put through to hit another fine shot past Prentice. This time Mawgan did respond in a positive fashion and played their best football in the latter part of the game. Olsen hit a speculative left foot free kick from 30 yards but the ball drifted just wide. Russell tried his luck from a similar distance but the keeper made a comfortable save. Alex Coles now looked very lively and he cut in from the left but he shot high and wide. Whilst it was disappointing to lose a top of the table game, Mawgan had 5 regular players missing and there were some good performances from Josh Burt, Johnny Truscott and James Lee. The players responded well in the changing room after and everyone is now looking forward to the Junior Cup game next Saturday away against Callington.
