Foxtrot. lol :D SXSW: Green Day side project offers raucous night of garage rock by Rob Clark AUSTIN — Somehow, a Friday night showcase by the Foxtrot Hot Tubs seemed to be a bit overlooked by South by Southwest festivalgoers. There wasn’t a huge line to get into the Brazos Hall, and there was room to move around inside. Perhaps some of the attendees didn’t realize that the band is a side project of Green Day, with all three members (Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool) supported by extra guitar and keyboard power. The band has been kicking around since 2008, but curiously, the masses missed the memo. Thats their loss. Foxtrot features a much more raw and retro sound than the polish of Green Day’s recent work, so no introspective rock ballads or Broadway-worthy tunes. Just nonstop garage rock. And it was fantastic. The band must have hit a party-supply store beforehand. Dozens of black balloons were dumped onto the crowd, in addition to confetti blasts and an alligator head that was rigged to Silly String cans (perfect for the song Alligator). Armstrong, decked out in a black top hat and an oversized bow tie, didn’t have to bother with guitar, so he was all over the place, dousing the crowd with water and beer and furiously dancing, thrashing and occasionally breaking out a move worthy of the Peanuts gang in A Charlie Brown Christmas. Several tracks from the band’s 2008 album were standouts, including Stop Drop and Roll, Pieces of Truth and Mother Mary. And in what some might see as a nod to the band’s early days, the show even featured some old-school moshing and crowd surfing. Weren’t the ‘90s fun? theeagle/blogs/curiouser_and_curiouser/article_aa33a494-ac4d-11e3-bfb1-0019bb2963f4.html **PHOTO via the Yahoo Music article that I shared earlier. yahoo-2014-sxsw-music-film-20140315-063847-103 brazos
