Fr. David Meconi, SJ, editor of Homiletic & Pastoral Review, would like you to read the following article: To help us all remember what it is this Pope and the entire Church teaches, we are here linking an excellent essay by Angela Bonilla on the proper theology of family size and child spacing. His full note: In light of Pope Francis recent comments about large families, many of his faithful feel hurt or disappointed in his seemingly flippant remark. He too understands that perhaps his comments were out of place, evidenced by the fact that he took time Wednesday morning to admit that it gives him consolation and hope to see so many numerous families who receive children as a real gift from God. They know that every child is a benediction, adding that it is simplistic to think large families cause poverty in such places like the Philippines. Instead, the Holy Father said, We can all say that the principal cause of poverty is an economic system that has removed the person from the center, and put the god of money there instead. Even Homer nods, and at times even a Pope can speak too swiftly. Pope Francis, especially, has already shown his penchant to speak spontaneously, thus far preferring personal statements more ex corde, rather than ex cathedra! To help us all remember what it is this Pope and the entire Church teaches, we are here linking an excellent essay by Angela Bonilla on the proper theology of family size and child spacing. Blessings, Fr. Meconi
