Fran Landesman is the most remarkable artist Ive ever had the privilege to meet and work with in the twenty plus years Ive been running Farrago Poetry and there have been and to continue to be many brilliant and extraordinarily talented people that perform with us. She passed away peacefully a couple of days after her final gig, at Farrago, in July 2011 at the grand old age of 83, having retired early to bed following on from a song writing session with her music partner Simon Wallace, I was informed still buzzing with excitement at the previous days triumphal performance. New songs keep getting recorded, there are many excellent ones among the 11 Landesman/Wallace compositions that appear on Sarah Moules critically acclaimed new album, Songs From the Floating World. Today would have been Frans birthday, so go listen to songs on this album sampler, pull out your books with her poems in them, listen to the jazz standards that made her name, if youre stuck for stuff to enjoy go to the Farrago youtube channel or Google.
