Frances Snecma Targeted by Hackers - Researcher Reuters (02/18/14) Finkle, Jim ; Hepher, Tim A computer security researcher speaking on condition of anonymity says a vulnerability in Internet Explorer was recently exploited by cybercriminals to attack the French aerospace engine maker Snecma. The researcher noted that the cybercriminals who carried out the attack on Snecma used malware that identified domain names belonging to the company, though the researcher said it is uncertain how successful the hackers were in trying to obtain access to Snecmas network. The researchers comments come after the Israeli cybersecurity company Seculert said that a French aerospace company--which it did not name--was the victim of a cyberattack that exploited a vulnerability in Internet Explorer. The attack, which Seculert said began Jan. 17 and may not have ended, involved malware that infected devices used to remotely access the targeted companys network in order to obtain network login credentials. Seculert says that the malware is different than the one used in a similar attack against the Veterans of Foreign Wars, which it says is an indication that the attacks were carried out by two different groups. Microsoft, meanwhile, says the vulnerability identified by the anonymous researcher and Seculert exists in Internet Explorer versions 9 and 10, and that users can protect themselves by upgrading to version 11.
