Francophony – Opening of the “Francophony and Digital Technology” conference by Ms. Annick Girardin (Paris, October 7, 2014) Ms. Annick Girardin, Minister of State for Development and Francophony, will this evening open the “Francophony and Digital Technology” conference” at the National Assembly alongside Axelle Lemaire, Minister of State for the Digital Sector. She will notably participate in the round table entitled “Digital technology: an opportunity to spread the French language around the world?” organized by Mr. Christophe Premat, Deputy for French citizens resident outside of France. While the role of digital education is expanding dramatically, the French language must continue to be offered through a consistent and diversified range of programs. Digital technology offers new opportunities to support French-language training. The “100,000 teachers for Africa” program, launched this year, is therefore focused on distance education for teachers and efforts to establish a network of these teachers. Two innovative tools developed by the Institut français will be presented next month in Dakar at the Francophonie Summit: a digital database for vocational French instruction and the social network for French teachers, “IF-Profs.
