Frankly many in Delhi attach a lot of leverage to what you are, what is your paycheque, what car you drive, where do you stay, where you hail from( yes there is a strong undercurrent of ethnocentrism about ownership of the city when 50 percent of the city dwellers were refugees till 5-6 decades back). These feelings are many a times not articulated in that many words but are apparent to a neutral observer. Mumbai also uses ethnocentrism to further political gains but beyond the politics of it all it just lets you be. Having said that with a world class infrastructure and an emerging economy of service sector in Delhi there is a vibrant salaried middle class that has exploded like a dynamite and which is challenging the feudal preheld notions of a city confused about its historical inheritance. it is this young, restless class of people that are changing Delhi and changing it for good.
