Free Spirit Horse Memorial Appeal. The aim of the Free Spirit - TopicsExpress

Free Spirit Horse Memorial Appeal. The aim of the Free Spirit Memorial appeal is to site a life sized bronze statute of a horse at the National Memorial Arboretum (NMA) in Staffordshire. This accolade to the horse is the only memorial the NMA has granted to an animal in its own right, a lasting memorial acknowledging the horses unfaltering service to mankind through times of conflict in particular WW1 and who continue today to serve us through work, rehabilitation of the sick and disabled and of course the joy they provide in pleasure and sporting events now and in the future. A bronze Marquette has been produced by Georgie Welch, an impression of the life size version can be seen by visiting freespiritmemorial.co.uk. In order to raise the £250,000 needed to site the memorial by 2018 the Free Spirit Volunteers have worked on the following fund raising events: Art Competition. In September 2014 Free Spirit launched their Image of a horse fund raising art competition into schools within the UK. Schools can find more details of how to entre by visiting the free spirit website freespiritmemorial.co.uk clicking on the Education section. Hobbycraft are sponsoring all the prizes. The winners will be invited to the Crabbies Grand National 2015 festival at Aintree Racecourse in April 2015 to be presented their prizes. Winners will have their art work displayed at the racecourse during the festival period. Entries will be judges by a professional panel of artists. WW1 History. A primary and secondary school age WW1 education package has been developed by a dedicated teacher who volunteers his time to Free Spirit. This will also be launched in September 2014 to be used by teachers in Schools to support childrens understanding of the events of WW1 and the role horses played. Free Spirit Music and Lyrics. A young song writer has written and produced a song to raise funds for the appeal which describes the emotions many people, both young and old, feel when they are with the horse. This song will be used to launch the appeal in September 2014 and also during the unveiling of the life size statue. Free Spirit are also hoping that this song will be played on radio stations. With the support of everyone Free Spirit is hoping that word will spread and the £250.000 needed will be raised by 2018 to mark the end of WW1 and the sacrifice horses and to celebrate all that the horse has done, past, present and in the future, will be recogonised and immortalized. The Free Spirit memorial will be mankind’s thanks to them, we hope you will support us in creating something very special. Free Spirit are seeking a body who would like to be a major contributor to the Free Spirit Horse Memorial Appeal to contact them. Email: [email protected]
