Free emergency services started, hospitals to be made autonomous, says Shoukat Ali The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Health Shoukat Ali Yousafzai has announced provision of free emergency service to the people throughout the province and making all the big and small hospitals as autonomous bodies. He made this announcement while addressing a function arranged at the Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar on Wednesday on the occasion of inaugurating free emergency service in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Chairman Pakistan Tehrik Insaf Imran Khan and Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak also addressed the function. Shoukat Ali Yousafzai said soon after establishment of the PTI government the situation in the health sector was very alarming. He said there was shortage of doctors, nurses and paramedics even in the city areas hospitals. He said within two and half month they appointed 450 doctors and 550 nurses. He said lab technicians and paramedics were being recruited on merit and by this the shortage would be reduced to a great extent. The minister health said 24 hour free emergency service had been started in the hospitals and Rs. 1 billion had been provided to all the hospitals and BHUs. He said more funds would also be released. He said the people would get free emergency service, lab tests and best quality medicines free of cost. He said the poor people were visiting the public sector hospitals and in this regard the poor would be treated with good behavior. He said used syringes were the main reason of the spread of hepatitis and in this connection legislation would be made to impose ban on the use of such disposable syringes. He said the mashroom growth of substandard laboratories had also created many problems as those labs had no experienced doctors and technicians and were looting the people. He said to cope with this issue the Health Regulatory Authority was being reorganized so that the fake labs were to be extirpated at all cost. He said the drug stores having no licenses had also been sealed. He said those would not be allowed to do the business till the availability of the required documents. The minister health said the doctors and administrative cadres were being separated and the administrators would be appointed on merit so that experienced professionals could join the field. He said Rs. 5 million had been provided to the Swat administration for the control of Dengue virus. He said in winter the virus would decrease to some extent but next time it could up dangerously as the larva would still exist.
