Freedom Now Platform summary in English Freedom Now is the result of monitoring by the National Committee for Freedom of Anouzla (regarding the case of journalist Ali Anouzla), who was arrested on Sept. 17th 2013, the censorship that hits both Arabic and French versions of his site lakome, then the provisional release of Anouzla following national and international solidarity. Considering all the experience accumulated by the Committee in this area, has emerged the idea of creating of Freedom Now as theCommittee of protection of freedom of the press and of expression in Morocco. The aim is to capitalize on its achievements since its inception and sustain its action, while drawing on the experiences of organizations known in the world, such as the Committee to Protect Journalists USA, Reporters without Borders, RSF, Article 19 Britain, Free Press in the Netherlands, International Freedom of Expression Exchange in Canada, and others. Freedom Nowis a non -profit organization that will work to bring the elements of protection to journalists andcitizens, researchers, academics and creators during exercising their freedom of opinion and expression. It will seek to expose and deal with harassment from any source, and impede the right of individuals and groups to express their views freely. The members of Freedom Nowarelawyers, academics, intellectuals, artists and journalists, as well as human rightsand civil society activists involved in supporting journalists, protection of media freedom and freedom of opinion and expression. Freedom Now AIMS at: - Establishing a force of proposal to improve the juridical arsenal on the liberties and guarantees related thereto, and the right to freedom of opinion and expression, as well as a reform of the public media in order to extirpate the hands of power so they finally play their role of public service in the service of the state and society. - Observing and identifying threats and violations of freedom of opinion and expression in Morocco , defending journalists, intellectuals and artists , overseeing the defence of victims and providing them with the necessary support, to anyone or entity who suffers persecution for exercising his right to freedom of expression and opinion . - Preparing and organizing advocacy at national and international level on these violations, and remind the authorities, where appropriate, their constitutional and international obligations in this area while initiating by legal means protest campaigns in favor of freedom of expression wherever it is threatened. The association Freedom Now held its Constitutive General Assembly on April 25th2014 in Rabat, Morocco. Thirty-six honorary members from Morocco and other countries (intellectuals, writers, media experts, lawyers, scholars, politic leaders) have warmly supported the creation of Freedom Now. The Board of Directors is composed of 66 members. He will meet at least twice a year. It has elected an Executive Board who will run the association on the day-to-day basis, and is composed of these 15 members.
