Freetowns Ebola Outbreak compared to January 6th 1999 Invasion -------- Awareness Times (January 6th 2015): ...Also speaking on the issue last evening was Dr. Sylvia Olayinka Blyden, the former Special Executive Assistant to the President at State House. She readily saw similarities between the two scenarios. According to Dr. Blyden, “It is just a replication of what happened in this country during the war years. The January 6th terrible disaster did not need to have happened just like the Ebola disaster in Freetown and other parts also did not need to have happened. Selfishness, over-bloated egos and lust for money over-riding the need to secure ordinary folks is what led to January 6th. To be quite frank, those exact same factors have also led to the ongoing Ebola catastrophe in the city and other places in Sierra Leone”. Dr. Blyden cautioned those in leadership who were refusing to learn from History. “Those who took oaths to protect everyone but still look at citizens in remote parts of the country as being inferior to us in Freetown should learn from History. This disparity in the psyche of many in leadership positions, is what drives them to implement disjointed policies; one for Freetown and another for the remote parts of this country. They have really learnt nothing from the war and that is why Ebola has been able to ravage this land so badly,” Dr. Sylvia Olayinka Blyden ended. news.sl/drwebsite/publish/article_200526945.shtml
