Freight rail contributes at least $28.5 billion to the Washington state economy each year, or 7.5 percent of the state’s GDP. That’s the conservative estimate of an economic study commissioned by the Washington Council on International Trade and BNSF. The report “An Engine of Prosperity” by Philip J. Romero, professor of business administration at the University of Oregon, also finds that freight rail supports 342,000 jobs, one out of 10 jobs in the state. You can view the full report on the Friends of BNSF website at https://friendsofbnsf/content/PNW-study. #Washington #economy
