French Open Day 2 Recap - The rain played a little part in the first part of the day which caused a delayed start. A little later it would come back and interrupt a few other matches. For the men, we had 3 upsets. No. 9 Kei Nishikori lost in straight sets. After the first set you could tell that something was not right physically. After having a great run since the Australian Open, Nishikori has had a few injuries in the past few weeks. The biggest upset of the day was No. 3 Stanislas Wawrinka. Garcia-Lopez was just the better player. Wawrinka made way too many unforced errors and never looked comfortable. Hopefully Wawrinka can now prepare for a run at Wimbledon to back up his Australian Open win. The No. 30 Vasek Pospisil was upset in straights by Gabashvili. The match of the day goes to Facundo Bagnis who outlasted Julien Benneteau by the score of 6-1, 6-2, 1-6, 3-6, 18-16. The fifth set was as long as the first four combined. The rest of the seeded men had a pretty easy day. Djokovic and Nadal had easy days. Djokovic took in a rain delay by having the kid holding the umbrella sit with him. It should a great connection between sport and entertainment. Im sure the kid will never forget having a water with Djokovic at the French Open. For the US men, they went 1-2 on the day. Ginepri had a tough test with Nadal and was only able to get 4 games off of him. The veteran, Michael Russell, lost in 4 to Gonzalez. The lone winner for the US men was Donald Young. For the women, the lone upset was the No. 17 Roberta Vinci who lost to Pauline Parmentier in 3 sets. Maria Sharapova, Petra Kvitova, Dominika Cibulkova, Sam Stosur, Eugenie Bouchard, and Andrea Petkovic all had straight sets wins to move onto the next round. The US women went 1-4 on the day. Lauren Davis was not able to close out her match from day 1 over Yaroslava Shvedova. Christina McHale lost to the No. 32 Vesnina. Unfortunately for the women two American women had to play each other. Taylor Townsend outlasted Vania King to move onto the next round. Looking forward to Day 3, Simona Halep, David Ferrer, Ana Ivanovic, and Gael Monfils all play on Chatrier. Lenglen has Na Li, Richard Gasquet, Andy Murray, and Madison Keys vs. Sara Errani. Other big matches out on Court 1 are Grigor Dimitrov vs. Ivo Karlovic and Sloane Stephens vs. Shuai Peng. Hopefully the rain will stay away and we will see some great tennis.
