French tenor and soprano saxophonist Barney Wilen got a huge lift - TopicsExpress

French tenor and soprano saxophonist Barney Wilen got a huge lift in his career when in 1957 he appeared with Miles Davis on the soundtrack to the Louis Malle film Ascenseur pour lÉchafaud (Elevator To The Gallows). Building on themes that he absorbed from Davis, Movie Themes from France (1989) a vastly underrated and under-heard album. Wilens sultry and seductive sax is backed by the play of the Mal Waldron Trio. https://youtube/watch?v=VSFCi4SGxl8
